Copper Corridor Food Hub Coordinator

The Copper Corridor Economic Development Coalition is happy to have Mary Karlin join us as the Copper Corridor Food Hub Coordinator. Please give her a big welcome. Her qualifications and enthusiasm  will help us move towards more and better food choices.

A Native of Northern California, Mary Karlin has lived in Superior, AZ for 10 years.

Once an independent retailer of gourmet kitchen wares and cookbooks in Sonoma County California, Mary offered cooking classes in her home kitchen. Shortly thereafter, she joined a local non-profit, Select Sonoma County, which served to promote the County along with the Sonoma-Made and Sonoma-Grown producers and their products with the assistance of tourism tax dollars. Mary became the Retail Liaison promoting the products and businesses locally in independent grocers, at local and national food and wine festivals, and by organizing retail in-store promotional events around the US.

Mary became a member of the founding staff at the award-winning Ramekins Culinary School in Sonoma, CA as the Retail and Cookbook Manager, Hospitality Manager, and Cooking Teacher. She developed culinary tours, winemaker and brewmaster dinners, and large-scale special cooking class events featuring notable culinary personalities. She also worked with the Sonoma Valley Visitors Bureau for three seasons as Coordinator for the three-month long Sonoma Valley Olive Festival. Mary once served as a Director of Sonoma County Farm Trails, a still-thriving organization founded in the 70’s by local farmers to create a map and guide for local agriculture, inviting the public to visit member growers’ and producers’ properties.

As an enthusiastic participant in the culinary world for over 25 years, Mary is a popular Cooking Teacher, Food Educator, Cookbook Author, Freelance Food Writer, and Recipe Developer. She is the author of three acclaimed cookbooks (Wood-fired Cooking, Artisan Cheese Making at Home, Mastering Fermentation, all Ten Speed Press). A community food activist in Superior, Mary is the Co-Owner of Brick House Bakers in Superior, a founder of Community Harvesters in Superior, and a team member of Regenerating Sonora, a locally-based non-profit.
